Toxic plant washing up on shore – beware!

Police Scotland have issued a warning about a dangerous plant washing up on the shoreline.

Members of the public are urged not to touch this plant if it washes up on a beach – and to keep pets and animals away.

The plant, known as hemlock root , has been washing up mainly along the shoreline of Loch Gilp, affecting communities in Ardrishaig and Loghgilphead.

Hemlock water dropwort is the most poisonous plant in the British Isles.

It can be fatal to humans or animals.

The plant is common in coastal areas and smells like parsley.
